A proud moment for every Indian

What a night at the Oscar's for Indians. At this point in time, as I scribble a few lines here, 4 Oscars have come our way. 2 to ARR, 1 to Resul Pookutty and 1 for 'Smile Pinki', a documentary based on a small girl living in rural Uttar Pradesh.
For the common man, it was ARR representing India at the Oscars. When he came up on stage, I felt a deep sense of pride and I am sure every Indian would have felt the same. It was quite a short speech. The message conveyed was very profound, his humility dripping with every word. It was a speech much like the one he made at the Golden Globes. He thanked everybody who has been associated with the film and its music. He thanked his mom, what a proud moment for her!!!
Coming from humble beginnings, ARR has reached phenomenal heights. The Oscars notwithstanding, his music has made him an internationally known figure. Personally, I wouldn't rate Slumdog even close to his best. But, for those who are not familiar with his compositions, Slumdog would have simply swept them off their feet. May more such laurels come his way.

Above all, it was great to hear a line in Tamizh at the Kodak Theatre. Thank you Rahman!!

slight correction da... "ella pugazhum iraivanukke"

It was an awesome moment! Me and my roommate were celebrating like India had won the world cup!! He has deserved the highest of highest awards for a long time now. Roja's theme in a hollywood movie now will just blow their minds.

Just to be a little cynical.

If he had given a similar or even better display in some other hollywood movie this year, it is very unlikely that he would have been noticed.

Guess its about being at the right place at the right time after all.

And to even think Jai Ho was initially composed for Yuvraaj and rejected. Guess Rahman forgot to thank Subash Ghai. lol

like this?:"I thank Subhash Ghai for not selecting this song and making a mess out of it by having 100 wacko foreigners dancing on their streets..."

And the previous point: yes, true. Oscar fot Best Original soundtrack award is not entirely an appreciation of the quality of music...

@KuttI
You are right, right time at the right place.
Did you feel that 8 was perhaps a little too much??

@Shyam
Absolutely, I also felt very proud indeed. There is no denying the fact that the BGM did gel with the scenes beautifully, but that may not be enough every time for an Oscar!!!

vijay padam title song a eduthu repeat pothutu sonda punch nu peter a?

srik,

clarification..i am by no means demeaning ar rahman or his achievement.. just trying to bring people back to the earth.. we've seen this kid grow into the genius he is right before our eyes.. we know how great he is.. why all this fuss that some arbit people stumbled upon his talent now.. taking pride is one thing, but taking credit is what seems to be happening..

and regarding subash ghai thank you .. point is simple.. would the same song be so talked about if he had used it for that dud.. i am sure the quality has to and goes beyond the picturization..
